    Auto to 6 Speed conversion??

I am seeing a lot more automatic cars for sale these days, than 6 speeds. So, I was wondering how much of a PITA is it to convert from auto to 6 speed. Most things I am aware of. Rear end gearing would have to change, Computer would have to be told what you did, pedals, console blah..blah..blah. But what I want to know is, are the bodies stamped the same? Is there already a spot in the floor for the shifter, and the pedals? Are the crossmembers different? Driveshaft length? Are the mounting points for the torque arm the same? I'm sure somebody on here has done this, or knows somebody who has. Is it worth it to buy an auto car for less money and convert it to a 6 speed, or is just better to keep looking for a manual car?

Thanks! That was helpful. I definitely seems like a pretty big project, but nothing I would'nt be afraid to tackle.

I swapped my auto to manual. No regrets. I gathered all the parts I needed and paid someone to do it. I didn't have the proper tools nor the time to do it so I paid a performance shop to do it for me.

He did the drill mod/ adj master cylinder/ and remote bleeder in the mix.

I bought everything new as far as master cylinder/slave cylinder/LS7 clutch kit and fluids.

I totally agree. It's different if you already have an A4 that you are attached too. I would wait and find the right car.

I was'nt really worried about it being faster. 6 speed cars are just way funner!

I don't have a car yet. I was just wondering if it'd be worth it to do the swap because I see more autos for sale. But as mentioned above, the cost of the swap probably would'nt be worth it. Just be easier and more cost effective to wait for a 6 speed car I guess.

If you have a built automatic with a 4200 stall....I will happily trade you my M6 and clutch for it.
