98 Trans AM Rear End Vrs 00 WS6 same or diff?
OK i just bought me a 98 Trans AM... My 00 WS6 was totaled... And i plan on saving the parts form my 00 that i can use on my 98.... And i was curious if there would be any difference in the rear ends and gears? They are both Automatics. I pretty much want to take any of the WS6 parts and put them on the Trans am so it will basically be a WS6 clone since i already have the parts laying around.
WS6 Before the accident...
After the girlfriend got a hold of it..

The rear is the same.
The gearing is different, in the auto any way. Regular TA has 2.73 rear end while the
Ws6 has 3.23.
The manual is the same. 3.42
I think that is correct.

What the hell did she do???
And he is right, for autos, T/A has 273, the WS6 has 3.23.
But looks like the hood, rims, and air box are trashed.. what else were you planning on swapping over?-Geno

The actual gears will be different too. The 2.73s are a "thick" gear while the 3.23s are not. So that will need to be specified as well. Along with it either being a 2series or 3series carrier.

black- 2000 pontiac trans am
the differentials are different from 98 to 00. the 00 should have an australian rear end in it, but the complete rear end unit should mount

RPO codes, not pro codes.
Inside the driver door, there is a list of RPO codes or options/features that the car has.
The link below defines what each one means.

LMAO.... DO you really want to know? She swerved for a damn car and went up over the medium in the middle of the road then the car coming up the road took the front end off ….
And the airbox is actuly fine but the two front rims and hood are trash... I dont know yet from another post they said the WS6 came with these
"Ram Air hood
WS6 raised lower air box
32mm front sway bar
1LE springs (for '98, '99, and some '00s)
WS6 badging & Ram Air decals
Lower restriction catback
Jounce spacers for 17X9" wheels
Power steering cooler"
So i be probly taking most of that off the car bedsides the Hood and rims.
Also i hear the PCM In the 98 are not as good so ill probly be switching all that out as well. But not right away.... Im thinking about just pulling the motor from the wrecked one and just rebuilding it slowley tell i get it the way i want then swap it... But im just learning so i have no idea what i want to do to the motor yet... I want more power but needs to be an every day driver..Last edited by FlipediS; 05-03-2008 at 03:54 PM.
