4th Gen F Body Owners with aftermarket rear ends please enli
Howdy all!
I have a 2001 T/A with an LS6 engine, T56 with LS7 clutch, full bolt ons, full chassis/suspension and she put down 400hp and 385 tq to the rear. I currently have the stock 10 bolt with a 373 gear ratio. The car does have TCS as well.
I plan on purchasing a whole new rear end set up seeing I have already blown up the stock 10 bolt once already. I was lucky that she was still under warranty at the time, so it was fixed for free. Now I feel the rear is going to grenade soon yet again, so I would like to know what you all are running and or think is the best rear end for me to buy for my application.
Eventually I plan on putting a Procharger D1SC in my car, so I need something to handle that along with slicks eventually as well. I also want something that I can still reliably drive from Chicago to Los Angeles and not have to worry about it. Driving wise I do long cruises, drag race at the local track on the weekend in the summer and the occasional parking lot or garage drifting
My options that I currently have in mind are the Strange S60, Strange 12 Bolt, Moser 12 Bolt, Moser 9" or completely build up my stock rear (I don't think this last choice is an option or the best idea seeing I have a M6 car, but if there are any people rocking a stock 10 bolt built up, I would like to know from them if it was worth it or not at all).
Lastly, I would like to know if there are any pros or cons between one or the other and if there are any new things arising from purchasing a larger rear end, such as noise and power loss for example. And also, are there other items I will have to purchase along with the aftermarket rear end in order to use it, such as a new custom length driveshaft. Thank you all very much for dropping in and helping a fellow GM Owner.

I have a Strange 12 bolt (M6) and I like it but if I could do over I'd go Moser 9'. S60 is a good choice too.

I have a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73's in my M6. Love it! I have had no problems, and the install was simple. Took a few hours laying in my driveway.
The choice is going to be hard with the opinions that you are about to get. Most of these threads turn to bashing one rear-end over the other. I will say this, though. No matter what you go with, 3.73's are a good all around gear for a driver. Make sure you get the 4 channel set-up to retain tcs and abs. Most people, myself included, don't use the tcs, but it's good to have operational for resale.Last edited by MrKid; 11-22-2010 at 01:35 AM.

I have a moser 12,complete nightmare of a ordeal.if I could do it all over again I would do some things different..1)order directly from the manufacturer weather it be strange or moser.I cannot stress this point enough,I ended up paying about $200 more because of a incompetent moser vender.if I were you I would go with the strange s60 and you will absolutely have to get a new driveshaft with the s60.

ive been wondering the same. ive been wanting to replace my rear end and i will probably have it replaced by the end of next year (i like to plan...and dream ahead)
ive heard of the MWC and Moser. obviously these are very popular but i have heard some dislike about the moser... i dont know much more outside of pajeff02's post above...
i can obviously rule out the D60... but it looks like a 9" will be what i need for the M6...
looks like im favoring the MWC 9"
i probably wont break 400HP for a few years...unless i find that buried treasure chest in the back yard

MWC is a good option.
I didn't go that way since I already have a torque arm.
Plus I read some of his older posts and he seemed like a jerk.
I also didn't want to go with a one man operation. I prefer to deal with a larger company.

12 bolt Moser here with 3.73's. 3 years + with only one issue. Backing plate bolts backed off. This was an installer (me) issue not a Moser issue. I needed 3 bolts, Moser sent me 8 at no cost to me. I can not say enough nice things about Moser customer service. I will state I bought directly from Moser. I have heard a lot of bad stories here and other places when you do not buy directly from them. The choice is going to be hard with the opinions that you will get.

I'm curious if any of you Moser 12 bolt guys have measured your backlash?

I've avoided Moser for years, bad experiences with them, both product and customer service.
I only use Strange or Currie anymore.

Whatever rear you decide on, if you are putting on a D1SC, you want a higher gear ratio like a 3.42 or somewhere close to that. Someone else with more experience with FI might be able to recommend something else. 3.73 would be about the lowest I would go with. That's just my opinion.
I have a Moser 9" with a 4.11 gear with just LTs/ORY/exhaust and a lid for power adders. The one problem I had with my Moser was an axle seal leak. It took me pulling it out 3X and installing 3 different seals before I got it to stop leaking. Careful installation (using the right tool to ensure you don't crush the seal at all) and RTV solved it.

I think my axle seal is leaking also, noticed the center section of the rear end is wet, noticed that before the rear end had 2k miles on it.

IMO since you're going forced induction I would get an S60 or 9"......the brand is up to you. I read equally good and bad things about all of them.
