4.10s in the 1/4
Going from 3.42's to 4.10's how many tenths would I be looking to shave off?

depends on the car. are you running a a4 or m6? how is the tranny geared for 6th if its a m6 - .50, .65, if you know. also if you have a setup for higher top end power you could see a pretty good pickup in time as the gears will get the rpm up quicker. then again, if you have an a4, depending on its gearing, you may lose time at the end of the track. mods will make a difference too.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

With good shifting I would expect a couple of tenths, again depending on your car mods.

Ill just tell you from my own experience, i ran slower in the quartermile since i had ZERO traction all through 1st and 2nd gear, chirping bad going into 3rd and 4th gear. I had better results going from 2nd gear but even then once it picks up rpm's it spins. That was in my 01 SS M6 with just flowmaster muffler, exhuast cut out and lid with ofcourse the 4.10's and nitto drag radials, went through 3 rear ends in that car. What was very strange about snapping the rear on the last occasion was i went from 2nd to 3rd gear and the rear went. Then again my 01 SS Camaro was unusually fast and had no problems pulling on the same year model vettes, lol then the motor lost oil pressure and she sank. For some reason my 01 Z28 that i have now is much better at traction but then again i have 315's out back which help but i think if i had 315's Nittos this time instead of 275's i should be better but this car and my 01 SS is for some reason different in power delivery the 01 SS just felt faster.

I agree. a lower gear will help you accelerate faster, but traction will also come into play. You will probably lose time, unless you have tires and suspension to go with your gearing.

With just the gears you'll be slower untill you can get traction. Once you get traction you'll be faster, but only for a short time before the 10 bolt grenades.
Bottom line invest in a 9".Craig
