    10 bolt ...DONE

    so the 10 bolt on the beast is shot fellas.....6 speed manual...400rwhp and i dont take it to the track often....9 inch or 12 bolt? who has the best prices? would be nice to buy a complete one just to toss it in...i read about setting up the gears? shouldnt they come set up ? another thing...there is so many choices when picking out a rear....definitly could use some help...thanks guys

    I agree with above. I have the Moser 9" set-up with 4.11 gears and love it.

    it just went man !!! started making more and more noise till it was so bad u just had to take it apart and see whats wrong.....take the rear end cover off and metal pieces come out ..lol...looks like the inside of the teeth on the large gear are shaved off and the outside of the pinion has chunks out of it....thats just what i can see.......32k miles on it

    I went with a 9" in my 93 T/A with an M6....look for a used one on one of the f-body forums. I see them for sale once in a while.

    Whats the difference between the 9 and 10? Whats the more economical rear for daily driving with street tires? are they limited slip or posi ? I want a stronger than stock rear that will hold up on street tires for aggressive driving.

    9" is much stronger and more expensive than a 10 bolt. 10 bolt is most economical in that it's dirt cheap (and crap). Any aggressive driving, you will be recommended to either a 12-bolt or 9" rear. Nothing is cheap beyond a 10-bolt really..

    I would go with a 9" personally. And, despite some recent opinions around here, a good gearing. 4.11 for most.

    is a 10 bolt stronger than a stock rear? My brothers 97 ss had the optional torsen diff (which I think came standard 98+ on the z28 and ss). We have over 300 timeslips and hundreds of street races with the car on street tires but it never broke. Makes me wonder how the stock diff has such a bad rap.

    This, is why people need not listen to your opinion on gearing. A 10 bolt is the stock rearend.

    Believe what you want about gears. Engineers and manufacturers including all the tuners around the world are not idiots.

    I have never seen or heard of anyone recommending a 10-bolt over the stocker. That would be a redundant statement.

    I think what you may have heard is that people don't recommend upgrading the gearing or putting any money into a 10-bolt because it is a poor design and not engineered to take the abuse that our cars can give.

    What are you talking about? The 10 bolt IS THE STOCKER! No one can recommend it because they already have it.


    Again, if you don't even know the 10 bolt is the stocker, good luck persuading me, or hopefully anyone on your views on gearing.

    mine cost about $2,500 for the parts and a friend put it together for me and I put it in the car.
