01 Z28 SLP short stick install
Just wondering can i just remove the leather boot around the shifter, take off the original stick and put on my new short stick with the new bolts. I dont want to take off the center piece to get to it i know the install would be much easier that way but if i have the room id rather just take off the leather boot. Can it come off and will it cause any damage by doing that, thanks in advance for any advice.

You can do the stick no problem with just taking the boot off. If you're gonna do the whole shifter though, the cup holder, ashtray, lighter, etc. has to come out. That piece comes out real easy though....its separate from the rest of the console.

Thanks Rhinohuey, so basically i just pull up on the leather boot or do i pinch the sides and slowly pull up on it after taking off the shifter knob. Im kinda on edge doing it the car is in pretty good shap hate to pull and break something. I wish when i had my 01 SS i had modded the crap out of that thing so i couldve learned all this then.

Yeah, just squeeze in the sides of the shift boot and you can pretty much pull it straight off. Once you get one of the sides off you'll be able to see how the clips work. Just be careful not to break the plastic retainer ring.
