How long are the V6 trucks lasting

My son is looking at 1999 GMC single cab. Truck seems to be well taken care of. But it is a V6 with 155,000 miles. I told him I wasn't sure how long the V6s are lasting in the trucks. What do you guys think?

They'll last 300,000 miles with proper maintenance. No major issues with them.

4.3 is a good motor......check intake for leaks. Almost all of them leak at some point. Look for antifreeze running down front of motor. Fuel pump will fail if it hasnt already. Brake lines will rust and pop at some point if they havent already.

agree the 4.3 is the little engine that could. But it's heads are another thing. Very easy to warp/crack. Design flaw can be fix if they pin it. Parts are cheap. Same pistons & rods as sbc 350.

In a S10 Blazer or truck does the job but I'd still swap either a sbc 350 or LS swap.

    Thanks guys.

Man I'm getting old. I was just thinking the last time I bought a V6 was over 19 years ago.

I had a four cylinder car, for about a year, when I got out of high school but for the last 24 years its been all V8's. I've never owned a six cylinder.

There are plenty of six cylinder vehicles out there that I'd be more than happy to own. And vehicles that would wipe their ass with most V8s.

I bought an 02 v6 single cab silverado for pretty cheap years back.

Had odometer fraud and ended up having 174k miles. Still ended up being a great dependable truck i kept for several years. I traded it in once the trans started slipping but other than that no issues. The intake gasket did seep a bit.
