General L33 Information

Can anyone tell me/us about this new aluminum 5.3 V8? Apparently it is/was offered in '05 ('04?) and later GM half ton pickups with extended or crew cabs with 4WD. Reason I ask is that our local wrecking yard came across one which sold quickly but very cheaply. Could this mill work in a low $budget$ swap into my 1978 Chevy short stepside? Thanks in advance.

The L33 was an aluminum block version of the LM7, and was referred to as the Vortec 5300 HO in marketing materials. Horsepower increased by 15, to 310, over the LM7, and torque was unchanged. It was only available on extended cab 4WD pickup trucks.

2005-2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD
2005-2007 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD

Yes, with some motor mount modifications it can be swapped and has aready been. I think I posted the head and cam specs awhile back either here or LS1Truck.
