    clicking noise from transfer case maybe?

    i'm trying to figure out if my transfer case is shot on my 1999 z71. i have a slight clicking sound coming from what seems to be the transfer case when in 2wd accelerating. when i put it in 4wd the clicking sound gets even worse and also has a sound almost like a coat hanger wrapped around the driveshaft (really sounds bad lol). is the transfer case junk or do you guys think it could be something else like maybe the axle? the reason i'm thinking transfer case is because of when i engage 4wd it gets worse.

    Or the 4x4 on the fly unit is'nt fully engaging/functioning/disengaging properly..

    ahh, this makes me curious about something... the guy helping me change the oil last time i changed it asked if my 4wd was engaged because his wife had accidentally hit auto 4wd and had engaged his when he went to change his oil without him knowing. whatever is underneath there that is supposed to be spinning freely is not. is it maybe the motor that engages/disengages the 4wd?

    Your best bet would be to get it to a shop asap. Have a professional give his oppy on what's going on there. If it is the servo for the shift on the fly and it's possibly not fully engaging or disengaging the transfer case, this could lead to further problems with the drive line later if not sooner..
