Don't listen to this guy, a very lightly modded 4.8 won't get close to a 5.3 (which is a stroked 4.8) especially once you start modding the 5.3 also. I used to own a RC stepside with the 5.3...here's some useful info.
-A CAI is a CAI...don't pay twice as much for a brand name.
-Don't buy a spacer for a dry intake manifold setup..it's useless and would better serve as a paper weight.
-Hypertech is all around shiiit...if you want a great handheld buy a Diablosport Predator. For the same price you get better tunes...the ability to download custom tunes through your home computer...data monitoring and a lot more user adjustable options. You should also be able to use it for your LS1 if you have one...I put my LS1 back to the stock tune and was able to tune my old truck.
-Get a straight-through muffler like a Magnaflow...
-Like the other guy said...a ported TB wouldn't hurt. I had mine done by Shaner...he does great work and is a nice guy. http://s2performance.net/Last edited by SeVeReDiStOrTiOn; 08-01-2008 at 09:27 PM.

Black- 2007 Silverado
get you a custom mail order tune from nelson performance, pacesetter long tube headers with ORY, and a straight through muffler...forget the handheld tuners...then if you want to go a little further get a comp cams XR265 (212/218 .522/.529 114LSA) with some yellow LS6 springs...that combo right there makes some good power on a lil 4.8
2007 RCSB 5.3L

In theory the 5.3 should beat a 4.8. But there are some cases where that doesnt happen. Ive seen some 4.8s beat 5.3s and vise versa. And yea they were stock. Some guys know it all when it comes to the numbers but ive seen the numbers get proven wrong in a few cases.

"Racing" stock trucks? How fun could that be? I would rather save my gas than be that foolish.

Doubt it....they could always be hiding mods like gears and tunes.
With all things being equal (weight[sprung and unsprung], gearing, tires, drivers) I totally disagree. We're not talking about two completely different engines/drivetrains here...which would be the case with my truck. The 5.3 has more torque through-out the power band and breathes just as good as the 4.8 up top.
Saying "sometimes numbers don't matter" is a bunch of shit...except in the case of peak numbers. The numbers through-out the rpm range do matter (under the curve)...if you believe otherwise you'll always be staring at taillights and wondering WTF just happened.

i think he would much rather do a custom chip he does a lot of towing he has a few quads/ trailer and sometimes rents a boat..his truck will do the work he just put a gibson cat back on...i dont want to raid his pockets..but i would like him to get a lil more hp/tq and he doesnt want to go into a cam swap right now...just someting a little more sneaky so his wife wont know yet lol
