    2008 Silverado fuel pump assembly fixes ? ? ?

    2008 Silverado, 180k+ miles, 4x4 5.3 extended cab automatic...
    Been decent basic truck, BUT...
lately rust is getting the better of odd stuff on the underside.
Last week lower radiator hose clamp let loose while sitting in driveway and started leaking antifreeze.
Drove it last night and smelled gas...
Closer look this morning and the steel line on top of the tank spraying like a fountain.
    RUSTY rusted through.
Dropped the tank and did what I could to unhook everything.
The ends of the fuel line, what I am guessing is a return line, and a vapor line all have ends stick in the connectors.
SO rusty and rotten that no way to get them out.
Figured I was going to buy a pump assembly to fix the leak...
Now not sure best way to get this thing going again.
Checked all the major retailers, $300-$400 for pump assemblies.
Everything is good inside tank, just all the rotten steel stuff on top.
See mail order assemblies for as low as $60
Plan is to get fixed and put up for sale soon after seeing all the pieces parts failing from rust.
What a joy getting at the clip nut holding rear tank strap.
Someone else must have suffered like I did with that terrible design.
Easy to see how it wen t OK at assembly line.
But when the clip nut between the mount tab and round tube crossmember broke...
    Sawzall and WHAT A PAIN.

    But anyways,
What is the best solution at this point? ? ?
Are there connectors available to replace the ones I can't get the old tubing ends out of?
Will the cheap online pumps last long enough to sell the truck?
    Words of wisdom?
Advice from anyone else that has been there?
Appreciate whatever I can find out.
    BIG THANKS ! ! !

Well, I finally got all of the tubing ends out of the connectors.
Beat the $hi+ out of the sealing ring and got it off.
Still wondering though, since the pump, sending unit, and everything else inside is OK, should I be buying a pump assembly?
Can the separate pieces be had?
If I can get a new clamp ring cheap I should.
Is the "carrier" or whatever it might be called available by itself?
Or best to buy a whole pump, sending unit, all together?
Walked the dog and neighbor said his truck had same trouble with rotted fuel line out top of tank.
Son's friend had an "08 and guess what, it's fuel line rotted off top of tank too.
Misery just loves company I guess.
Seeing replacement pumps all show entirely plastic tops, guessing poor design was redone eventually.
Hoping I can find out best route here.
    THANKS AGAIN

Your pain has been felt by others. In a situation like yours, most guys are replacing the pump assembly, the lock ring, and the hose assemblies on top of the tank because nothing comes apart. And sometimes the tank straps get replaced because they need to cut off.
But at this point, sounds like you got it all apart so just replace the pump assembly and maybe the lock ring.

Yep, been hearing more and more of the same story from others owning the same year trucks.
I do have it all apart and ordered a new pump assembly.
Hoping it can go back together once the new pump arrives.
It has taken a while, but looks like I have everything in place for it's arrival.
    THANKS for the reply.
    Appreciated
