Question 2007 5.3 in Aluminum or Cast Iron

I'm in the market for a new pickup. Either GMC or Chevy. I see them on the lots with both. Which engine block would you get and why?

I would get the aluminum because of the weight reduction. You'd probably get a slight more fuel economy because of it.

cast iron... more durable. aluminum sucks

and if u ever want to modify it cast iron will hold up a lot better.

only real advantage of aluminum is it disipates heat faster. but at the same time it cracks because of overheating at a lower temp. (thats where the durability sucks).

weight difference isnt enough to matter, i doubt u would get any gas mielage difference at all.

Aluminum. Lighter, dissipates heat better, plenty strong. There is no reason - at all - to insist on an iron block in something like this.

Iron...yea it's heavier but your truck is already going to be heavy so who gives a shit about 90lbs. Trucks are all about durability....iron is stronger hands down.

Go with the E-85 capable engine because you get bigger fuel pump and injectors for future upgrades like a blower.
