    no, you can wedge a piece of wood to keep the pins in place. when you take off the pads it will start to slowly compress, but you have the time to wedge in a piece of wood...

    I was thinking of doing this to mine again, but the aluminum is in to good of shape to paint over.

    I am gonna try polishing them one of these weekends
