    Wheels up at the Beaver!

There is simply nothing cooler in the automotive world than old iron yanking the front wheels at the line. Pics are from last week's Test & Tune and today's Jensen's Mean Street Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway.

It was a whole lot of fun watching today's race. I missed some great shots -- had a couple of guys end up in the grass after some serious hang time.

Had some nice air yesterday and cooler temps. The Trans Am went 12.430 on a 1.69 60' at 107.69 mph. Last run of the day I was able to put it back in the 12.4's again after a few slower runs. I am going to make a couple of changes and try it again in a few weeks.

Yeah the temps here have really dropped lately. It's now in the 50's at night. I've noticed with the cooler temperature my traction on the street is non-existent when getting on it. It spins quite a bit shifting and then grabs all of a sudden.

I'm going to try to get myself a set of wheels with a real tire mounted to them over this winter and be ready for next spring just like the route you took; track dedicated wheels.

Hoping in the next 2-3 weeks I can make it out at least 1 day before this season ends to see what the car does. I'm not expecting anything great with these Nitto drag radials though.

Here ya go Jeff, this is my father at the Tri-Power Nats with a nice little wheelie.
I've got one on a glossy of my chevelle doing the same thing, looks like your second pic but it twists more like your first pic. I'll see if the scanner works and get the wifey to figure out how to post it here.

It amazing to see how much the rear tire flexes under load in all these pics.

    Nice pic, FBJ!

I run our Hoosier QTP's with 18 lbs. of air and they also wrinkle a bit when I launch. I have noticed that quite a few in the "tuner" crowd run slicks on the front of their cars. Some must be running 10 lbs. or less of air pressure as they squat quite a bit roliing up to the line and on launch make all sorts of wild shapes.

Ya those front drive cars have a hard time at it.

We found our MT drag radials work best with about 14 psi cold for both his car and mine. I have the suspensions on both cars setup identical. After a burnout and making a pass, they come back to the pits with about 17 lbs. in them. That picture was either too early or too late, because 8" of air is common with Dads car, still a cool pic though. I love watching the old stuff run.
Sounds like you have your car running good now.

I actually forgot to check after a run to see what the tire pressure is hot. Probably should do that next time.

I've never thought about that either to be honest. Good catch and info.

If 18 is working for ya I'd stick with it.
I'm sure the pressure on ours is even higher than 17 right after the burnout, even though we start at 14. I assume the tires probably cool a bit during the run and down the return road, and we still see a rise of 3 psi. back in the pits. If they sit in the sun they'll raise pressure too.

If you are at 18 I'll bet you have over 20 when staging the car after your burnout. But if it works don't mess with it,,,right?

I set mine at 18psi, but have never even thought to check them after a run. I will next time out. I'm interested now.

Loving the pics. Can't deny good ol US muscle. And I love how the classics "rise" upon launch.
