    Vote:Lamest "Muscle" car ever

OK, here's something different: What do you guys think is the lamest muscle car ever produced (think of the 70's and 80's). My vote is for the Ford Mustang King Cobra. Remember that ugly beast, with all the cheezy cobra stickers and ground effects, and a weak 100hp v-6 to boot. (I think that was actually the optional "high performance" engine, think the 4 banger was standard!)

My runner up (although not factory produced) are those idiots who buy Cavaliers or Honda Accords and throw a giant "racing spoiler" on it.

i vote most any car built in the 70's after about '74, i mean i love the way my dads '78 silver anv. vette looks and it's fun to cruise around in but 185hp 350, wtf? i shouldn't be afraid to race a stock civic in a vette but i'd lose if i did in that car

I'd have to agree the '74-'77 Mustang "King Cobras" are the lamest "muscle car", but they DID have a V8, not a V6. Don't remember the HP on those, around 140-150 or so from 302ci (5.0L). The V8 Chevy Monza Spyders were in the same category, I think they had 305ci small blocks, not much HP. I remember touring the Dearborn factory in '75-'76 when those lame 'stangs were rolling down the line, one of the few cars I could remember that offered a range of engines that included 4, 6 and 8 cyls.

Anyone remember the early '80s Citation X11s? One of the very early attempts at FWD "performance". I think Yenko built up some of those for SCCA racing.

Werd. FWD is NOT "muscle", don't care how fast you MIGHT be able to make it.

Yeah, I guess those King Gardner's did have a crappy 302 in them, maybe it was the equally lame Cobra II, that had the crummy v-6. I guess it's not really the HP that makes these cars so bad (140 horse was probably considered alot of power in the mid 70's), it was just all the gaudy hood scoops (non functional of course) and stickers and crap on that car that made it so bad. No wonder Shelby tried suing Ford down the road! Atleast Chevy had the decency to drop the SS badge and the Z28 badge (atleast for a couple years) when the performance of their Camaros got real bad in those years because of the government.

IMO the old MACH 1 Mustangs were ugly as hell-so it gets my vote-but those Mustang 2s or cobras mentioned above were pretty lame no doubt.

78 Mustang King Cobra without a doubt. For those of you who weren't around at the time or who haven't seen one then here ya go:

Mind you, even back in the day, those of us in the GM camp that had or owned F-bodies got a good laugh out of this.

Farrah Fawcett drove a Mustang II and one of the other Charlie's Angels drove a Pinto. IIRC they may have been the red/white/blue versions that were built to celebrate the Bi-Centennial in '76. R/W/B Mavericks were built that year as well. It used to crack me up every time an Angel "burnt rubber" (squeeling the tires) in that Pinto, sound-dub no doubt.

If we can include late model cars, I would have to say the 1994-1998 Mustang GT. Coming into production with a hunkin' 215-horsepower and low 15-second timeslips, I guess Ford could see deep into the future, because they obviously knew they didn't have to compete with Chevrolet in terms of power. And the 4.6-liters of 96-98...oh man, don't even get me started!

To be honest with you it was. I not BS'ing you. 79 was the 1st year for the Fox body. Similar to the way the 64-66 Mustang's are based on the Falcon chasis, the 74-78 Stangs are based on the Pinto chasis.

True, true. But there's something about the King Cobra II that just invites a derisive comment....
