    81 Camaro z28

My neighbor just aquired an 82 camaro z28 a few weeks ago. he has it at a local shop getting work done to it and they are telling him the pinion seal is leaking and there is no way to take the pinion out to fix it. they are also telling him it has a throttle body and the fuel pump is in the tank.

It has been quite a long time since i seen one of those, but I swear all of that is wrong. I remember they had electronic controlled quadrajets, the fuel pump was on the pass. side of the engine. and i swear that you can get that pinion off. I may have seen too much and forgotten too much but all that crap that the shop says just seems completely wrong. It does have the 350 in it. so if any of you know for sure please let me know.

Your title says 81 but in your paragraph you refer to it as an 82.
This was a major body style change from second gen to third gen. 2 very completely different cars.
So it's a bit difficult to answer your questions.

About the only thing similar would be replacing the pinion seal on either car. The difference being the 81 would have an 8.5 inch ring gear 10 bolt and the pinion diameter is 1.625.
The 82 is the first year the camaro started using the 7.625 ring gear 10 bolt with a torque arm.

Then you are correct sir. They had quadrajet carburators and mechanical fuel pumps, providing the car is still original.
