    Well I'm making the switch........to Mobil 1

Place I get my oil change uses Quaker State synthetic, so I went ahead and asked if I brought my own Mobil 1 would it be a problem. They said nope, go ahead and bring it in and we'll still change it out. Figured it was time for the switch, even said to the guy on the phone that the Mobil 1 is 100% better then the Quaker State stuff and he kinda whispered back "Yes"

It is a good oil, but they say Castrol oil synthetic is better.

'They' say a lot of things

You could ask 5 different LS1 drivers and they'd all tell you something different.

I will stick with regular castrol 10w30 dino oil. $1.80/bottle and it's never done me wrong.

I think 'they' are refering to the German Castrol oil. Not sure of the weight off the top of my head though.
Got it....0w30 German Castrol. Not the easiest stuff to find sometimes though.

I personally use Mobil1 5w-30 in both my cars. Although I think I might change to Royal Purple for the Trans Am with this new motor (after break-in).

Anyone experience any probs switching to the Mobil 1 5w-30 syn? I used to use Quaker St. syn blend. Father in law said he used Mobil 1 way back in the day on a van he had and it blew a valve or some shit, but everything he "Says" isn't always reliable.........Lotta drugs floating around when he was a kid wink wink

Have a 2000 SS comming up on 40k miles. I have never run anything but Mobile 1. I am extremely anal about the services and the oil always looks pretty clean on the change. Your owners manual will tell you Castrol synth though.

When I got my LT1 (In a Buick Roadmaster) it had 39,000 miles on it, now 7 yrs. later,I have 197,000 miles. I have always used Valvoline 20-50w (I live on the Louisiana coast, so the winters are very mild and the summer is killer, warm almost all year) I just changed the opti-spark & water pump, so while I was that far in I changed the timming chain & the shaft/bearing assembely that drives the water pump. When I pulled the timming cover, I was pleased to find no sludge & just a very little varnish color. I ALWAYS change oil every 3,000 miles or less. THAT is what matters most. Keep it yellow. I run the Mobil 1 in my LS1 because it was the same oil I run in my 2 race motors. After tearing down the race motors from time to time, I could not be happier with the way the internals look. That alone made me a big fan. I still change oil every 3k though, even with the synthetic.

I have changed on race motor to Syntech though. I am curious to see what it looks like at the next teardown. My guess, just as good.

I took a 4.6L motor that had 247,000 miles on it out of a Lincoln town car because the guy was afraid that something "could" happen to it. I broke it down and was amazed at how clean it was, it looked like it just came out of a crate with hardly any noticable wear in the cylinders. I asked the guy what oil he used and he said that ever since the day he bought it off of the showroom floor he used Mobil 1 Synthetic and changed it no more than 4,000 mile intervals. I am the kind of person that has to see it before i believe it and ever since i have ran Mobil 1 Synthetic

I lookked for it again Sonnyred, but I guess I was mistaken. I was sure I saw it in the manual. but all it says is to use oils that have the "approved starburst" seal on it. So I guess the ball is back in your court, your decision. Sorry...
