Valvetrain noise
Is it common to have a loud valvetrain?? Mine is loud and is noticeable as I drive by places and it echoes back. I'm not sure if it's the lifters or what. Any input on this? I just want it to be quiet. I have the stage II cnc ported heads and a 224 .581 112 cam. It sounds like a tapping or ticking noise. It's definately not a knock though.

The cam is going to make it sound like a sewing machine, no real way to get around that.

im have the same sewing machine noise , and i can hear it inside my car with the windows up. i posted over in ls1tech and people have suggested checking the pushrod length, rocker arms losing their needle bearings, and to retorque everything.
anyone else got anything?

Exaust leak? The echoing back part caught my attention. My headers came with EGR but was blocked off. The EGR tube where it attachs to the primary developed a crack that was BIOCH to find. It finally cracked off an a MIG made short work of the hole. Its hard to believe but that little piece that broke off weighs several #s because it made out of the same stainless steel as the headers. I guess the vibration of the engine developed a stress crack.

I've had my car checked numerous times for an exhaust leak and they all tell me everything is fine. Other people say it could be either the gold springs I have or the lifters?

With my old motor, I had a TR230/224 with the 918 springs and TR hardened pushrods (stock length) and it was ticking pretty loud...even concerned the shop guys. When I build my new motor, I put a 232/234, but changed to comp r-series roller lifters and used a pushrod length checker to find my old pushrods were too short. Got the correct length and my new motor is almost silent in the engine bay. I'm a believer in making sure the pushrods are the correct length now. Especially since in my old loud motor, I had a valve hit my piston at high RPM and destroy a head, piston, etc...

well I got the h/c setup from patriot. Also they set me up with a complete package to include what I thought was the correct size pushrods. I would guess 7.4? I honestly don't know. (I have a 224/224 .581/.581 112 lsa with stage 2 cnc ported heads 59cc)

sounds to me you have correct length, I doubt Patriot would send the wrong length knowing the setup... Yours is similar to mine, stage 2 59cc, 7.4 pushrods all done by a performance shop. Mine is pretty loud, has been since the install 2 years ago. Might try different oils. Mine seemed to get louder with the Royal Purple 10W-30. Mobile synthetic was quieter. Gonna try some different oil once I finish off this case I have.

On a side note, what kind of numbers did you put down? And are you happy with the performance increase?

Mine will be due for an oil change soon, so I'll try something different.
The day I got the dyno tune I had the mt et street radials and stock exhaust still on and it got 410 rwhp and 390 tq. When the e-cutout was open it was up around 422 rwhp and 399 tq.
