    TSP Torquer Cam

Anyone running this with stock heads? I was going to get a 228/228 .588/.588 with a 112lsa for some choppity chop. But I'm getting steered to the Torquer 231/234 .595/.598 112 lsa. After its all said and done with my SS I will have the following power mods:

    Kooks LTs and catted y
    ASP crank pulley
    cam/double springs
    LS6 intake(maybe)

I really don't think that a bigger cam automatically means better. My SS is a daily driver to work an back on the interstate mostly. Alittle street play on weekends. I have heard that a 228 cam works best for the M6 so I am apprehensive on going to bigger cam. If it's worth it and all.

    Thanks

That sounded like a good cam when I was picking mine. Mine is not a daily driver though so I went ahead and got the Magic Stick. I love the cam. Speed Inc tuned it good so I really so no reason why I couldn't drive it on the street everyday. You're still going to be making good power with that cam.

I have a cam about like the one your talking about. It has a choppy idle and I have all the supporting mods minus the LS6 intake. I love it! I drove mine everyday up till the last few months when I started driving my 69 FOrd. No need to keep racking up miles when I had something else to drive.

I am about 75% sure I will go with the Torquer. Probably not the chromolly push rods tho. I have been told since I have an M6 that it would be best to stick with stock push rods. In case I miss a shift it would be better to bend a push rod instead of a valve. Sounds like good advice being that I have missed a shift once or twice. Oh how I hate that feeling.

Big D, what kinda rwhp are you throwin down? What can I expect with the above power mods. I already have a lid, K&N, LM2. I would like to achieve 400rwhp n/a.

Before I added the 80mm T/B and the L/M catback I put down 355 rwhp and 360rwtq. But I still need the LS6 intake and I will get a new dyno.

I wouldn't recommend running the standard pushrods. You will bend one with the increased spring tension. You have to run stouter springs with that cam. I don't know how many miles you ahve on your car, but I think I will see about 380 or so rwhp when I get done. My car has about 98k on the clock. So not too bad.

    I would get new pushrods.

Not sure where the cam you pick will die off, but if it is over stock (most likely) you will eventually bend the stock pushrods WITHOUT a misshift.

Have you picked out valvesprings yet?? Those are required with ANY cam.

It's a PRC(Percision Racing)double spring kit that I can get with the cam. It includes titanium retainers, seals, and chromolly pushrods. Springs are rated to lift .660 They should last a while. I guess I'll go with the hardened pushrods.

nhraformula, why the 228/228 cam? Just want to know your reasoning.

it going to be alittle more easy to live with.
also you wont have to spin it too high to get the most out of the cam.

Huskerz....you are putting too much spring over that cam.

If you are under .600 lift...run Comp 918's. Make sure to heat cycle them a couple times before stepping on the loud pedal.

Well wait a sec. With that spring I should get alot of reliable miles don't you think? Is it too stiff? If I go with a 228 cam then I can see 918s but still isn't it a little close on lift?

If you have alot of miles you might not want a big cam. If you buy a cam that you need to rev to 6800 to get the most out of it, your stock bottom end might not live a very long life. Just something to consider....

Yes I understand. The 228 cam power band is 1600rpm-6300rpm. The Torquer is 1700-6500. Needless to say I don't spin that high ever. I don't think the 228 cam is considered a BIG cam. I have 70k on the car.

I don't either. That's why I'd recommend the 228 cam over the Torquer cam. That way you can shift at 6500 instead of 6800.

I'm running the COmp 918 springs on my 232/234 595/598 on a 112 LSA. I checked around and with the supporting mods (p/r's, springs, retainers, and locks) no problems and I have had it in for about 7 months and 10k miles. It is close but the springs are good for .600 lift.

Some will say overkill and mention you are probably leaving a couple ponies.

Although I also went overkill when I had my low lift 226/234 in.
I would probably have done it with the 918's looking back.
    New cam....I need duals.
