TR224 Idle issues...
Hey, I had the opportunity to have a TR224 cam installed on my '01 Trans Am for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately, little tunning has been done to the car, and it's an A4. Car sounds amazing but I'm aware it's not making much more power than stock as of right now.(which is fine, as I am going easy on it anyway)
I know that sounds bad, but I am storing the car for a year starting sometime next week and I cannot get the chance to fully tune it until I get back.
Cold start is a huge pain in the ass, and I have to give it 5% throttle for several seconds until it can hold idle on it's own. Now, in gear, it idles lower. so it is prone to stall after a cold start(which is dangerous so I'm not taking it anywhere right now). And even in one case after being run for a few minutes it stalled coming to a stop sign in my neighborhood.
Is there any manual way to adjust the idle on the car, as it won't be getting tuned until 2009? I've heard there is a drill method but there might be another way. I would assume another 150rpm or so wouldn't be that high and would help the car a great deal in staying alive.
I'm also aware with brakes applied, I'll have to battle it a bit to stop, but I'm willing to accept that. A stall and tune come after I get back(I know I should have gotten the stall first...)

...When i installed that cam on my car it was bone stock not even a lid. I know its an m6 but the first few time i would not idle on its own but after a few drives it learned it self i guess and cold/warm any starts it would idle fine. Idk, do you have anything at all done to the car?MAF?

I just have an MTI lid and an slp loudmouth catback. I haven't even gotten long tubes yet..
As for your situation, it'd be similar to mine.
In Neutral, my car idles fine after a warm up. Just, when I have load on the engine and I'm stopped, my car idles lower than yours, making it difficult for the motor to keep going as it is now. After a good warm up, it'll be a bit iffy, but fine. I just want something like maybe 650 rpm in gear to help in traffic, as I'd like to drive it my last few days here.

only way to fix it is with a tune... your running rich as hell with out that tune also and probably burning up a shit load of fuel... untill the tune it's going to want to stall out every time you come to a stop...

you're also a M6...totally different than an A4 when it comes to a cam install.

TR224 is a mild cam. A good tune will take care of that.

How many miles since the install?
Since getting it tuned is out of the question, your best bet would be to reset the computer and see how well it learns the A/F and idle.2008 Trailblazer SS

Thanks for the help everyone. Yeah I can tell the car is running rich.
A good warm up and the car didn't stall the entire ride! So, there isn't a way to adjust the idle manually?
EDIT: ok, further searching has lead me to a screw on the side of the TB, but I think I'm going to leave the idle alone.Last edited by Element3725; 10-10-2008 at 08:35 AM.

Yeah it works when I let it warm up good and long. A little frustrating as I have to be at work before 6:30 am, meaning I'll have to get out there even earlier, but that's a responsibility I decided to take on when I got the cam! I'm not going to try to touch anything to adjust the idle. Thanks!

I had the un-pleasant pleasure of buying a TA with the "drilled" TB on it. It sucked royally. Hanging idle problems at every stop sign/red light. You should not have to drill the blade on the small of a cam. Good cam though.

also if you reset the PCM liek luos said it will take aobut 100 miles or so for it to learn and readjust your AF ratio... it will help a little bit but not solve hte problem entirely... you'll still stall out at times when comeing to a stop... you can avoid that a bit by letting the car slow down in first gear enough that the rpms shoot up to idle...

It appears from viewing pictures of stock ls1 throttle bodies that the people who installed the cam already drilled a hole in mine. I am going to upload pictures soon to make sure, but it clearly looks like it recently has been drilled...
What should I do?:/
