Time to change the cam
Hey everybody I'm looking for some advise on how to change my cam (the right way) Is there anyone out there that can give me advise on cam selections, either what you've tried, or combinations that work well. I've talked with the technical advisors at Comp Cams, great guys to deal with, and they sugested a 224/224 .568/.568 114LSA. Sorry I forgot the part #. Can anybody help me out, this is alot more confusing thain I thought.

I just installed pacesetter headers and offroad pipe and a 2.5" electric cut out. I plan on some day replacing the heads. .588 lift that seems like alot. did you install .600" springs? How long have you been running this cam? Have you had any valve issues? Has the valve noise worse? Are you still running the stock heads? And did you replace the converter, well that is if you are driving an automatic.

i have had the the 224/581 lift cam for 4 years now. i bought behive springs for it that are rated for 650 lift just because they dont cost all that much more than single springs.
no valve issues at all and as with every aftermarket cam, theres more valve chatter but nothing bad at all.
i have stock heads and have a 3000 tci streetfighter converter. times in sig2000 nhra edition formula

thanks for the advice, I talked to Larry he gave me the same advice as the comp cam guys. I think because I got simmilar advice from two diffrent people that the 224 intake and exhaust and .568 lift will be a good fit for what I want to do. Does anyone know any good websights that have good clear instructions on how to do the cam myself. I know I could take my car to someone to have it done, but I would really like to learn how to do this for myself and take pride in my own work, ya know.

The 224 cam you mention above is a solid performer and it consistently puts up the numbers to substantiate this. The cam should build great low to mid range power and still give you an extra push up top. This would be a great fit for a daily driver and when matched with good heads, you still should be able to get to around 420 - 430 rwhp.
As for doing the install, it's certainly something you could accomplish provided you're pretty familiar with tearing a car apart and you have the proper tools. That being said, even after the install, you're going to need a tune.2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.
1989 Corvette L98, A4, Full bolt ons, etc.
