Stroker kit on LS1?

I am curious as to whether this can be done and how reliable would it be, what kits are available if any. I was thinking the aluminum walls were too thin but maybe not. Inform me fellas. I am not thinking of getting one personally, I would of prolly got iron block for stroker kit. But a friend asked me and now I am asking you. I honestly dont know. Thanks in advance for all the info you are about to give.

that's what i'm doing. you can stroke a LS1 block. put a 4.00" crankshaft in it and go 383 that way.

LS1 have quite a few stroker kit options out there. Remember that these are a sleeved block. So they can be re-sleeved to fit large pistons. Some of the common sizes are 383, 408, and 427 of course. The 427 requires Darton sleeves.

Darton makes the sleeves and Lunati makes the stroker kit. Sleeving a LS1 should only by done by a machine shop who has experience with it. Not an easy engine build.

Search the internet there should be plenty of articles on this engine. It is becoming fairly common.

by how much would stroking a ls1 into a 383 increase hp?plus do you think it would pass a california smog test?

Depends on cam.
Wouldn't be able to go too crazy with the cam.

Just dug this up for you. It is a good article about stroker engines and their geometry. The geometry of the engine has alot of influence on the engines life/reliability. I think you will learn alot from this article. Even though it is meant for fords

it is. but, you still have to go through at the same things i am doing to build a 383 (LS1 with 4.00" crank). the big thing with the 383, is you most likely have to grind the block itself to clear the cranks throws and rod ends.

So How much performance gain? I mean is it worth it? With my MTI heads and a .580 lift cam. Seems torgue would get a bump for sure but how much and how much horsepower increase estimated? I have to get a ring job anyway and I want to replace barrings and all while they are at it so I'm thinking may as well stroke it.

Yes, I usually point customers to that article when they ask about strokers and reliability. Its great about explaining the geometry changes.

I can't think of any LS1 books of hand as I don't have any for strokers at the moment. I am sure someone will chime in here with a good link.

I'm not the owner of Patriot cylinder heads. My shop is called Patriot Performance Auto and im in IL. I need to do something about the confusion, lol.
