Stock Rockers

I am getting ready to install a new Cam in my TA. I went with the TSP 228/228 .588/.588 112 LSA. Yes I am replacing the the Springs and Pushrods too. My question is if I should use the stock rockers or purchase a new set? The car has 48,000 miles on it. If I purchase a new set of rockers, Should I just buy a new set of Stockers or go with a better set? Which ones are better?

I am running the stock rockers on my 402 with a 248/254 629/622.
As long as you don't spin the hell outta it, the stockers should be fine.

Only thing to watch for is one losing its bearings.

You have several options. One would be to re-install them as they are, but as stated losing the rollers is always a question. You could send them out for the bearing upgrade that Harland Sharp does or replace with new ones. There are also some excellent aftermarket rockers out there, but obviously more money. I have also seen full sets of rockers with very little mileage on them for sale.

i kept my stockers. as a matter of fact, they are guys running 9s with the stock rockers.

Are Harland Sharp 1.7:1 rockers any good?

They had some problems a couple of years ago, they were wearing on the aluminum and not the roller. I assume it has been corrected. I went with the Cranes to get the faster valve acceleration over stock. I also found they have a narrower wipe pattern than stock.

So I will be fine if I bought brand new stockers and installed them? Are the stock pushrods 3/8 or 5/16?

Stock pushrods are 5/16".

the crane rockers require a shorter pushrod than stock. you'll have to get the entire kit. it comes with rockers, chromemoly pushrods, screw in studs, guideplates, and polylocks. retail goes for about $659.00

Heheh... just discussing these in another thread. They will work if you have the proper preload for them. IIRC .008 -.010 for the Comp R lifters. Check your PR length for the preload if you go with the stock rockers. Also I know Redphoenix1998 has had issues with HS in the past but they do a useful needle bearing upgrade to the stockers...

i have??? and you 'know' this for sure? seeing as i've never used Harland Sharp rockers, you must be thinking of another mrr23. the only aftermarket rockers i have used in my LS1 motors are the vinci/crane accelerated lift rockers.

OK, Thanks to all who replied. I am gonna go with the stock rockers and lifters with the TSP 228/228 .588/.588 112 LSA. I am gonna go ahead and install brand new ones though since I will be in the engine. I will be sure to put the comp 918 springs in and the hardened pushrods that come with the cam kit. If anyone sees any issues with the install please let me know, I am still waiting on the cam kit to come in.

I still have the stock rockers on my car as well running the g5x4 cam. LG told me that they were the best ones to use. I guess it had something to do with the lobe profile on the cam. I hear that Jesel has good rockers as well. Just something to consider next time if you change your cam.

For the money we have had VERY good luck with them.......For HIGH RPM they help seeing that they are a "shaft mount" that is MUCH more stable than a stud mount!!!
