    Rocker arm QuesTionS ??? new to LS1

    Well I just bought my first ls1 ( 98 camaro SS )

    I changed the oil and found needle bearing in my oil. ( F'N GREAT )

    Wellp time to put some roller rockers on it.

    1:7 or 1:8 ????

    Can I just put them quick-lift rockers on it and not change all the pushrods and guide plates. Or should I just buy the kit and change it all. Is there any tricks or tips on changing that stuff? It looks like a pain to get in there.

    Running all stock.

    1) 1.8's won't clear the stock valve covers.
    2) Good luck w/ the passenger side coil bracket bolt under the cowl.

    i would get 1.8's and just get a valve cover spacer! i dont think you will need pushrods but this is up to you, depends also if any are bent!
    good luck

    1.7's are more than enough in my opinion.

    Do I need the kit or can I just buy the rockers and use the stock pushrods and springs. thanks

    So it would just be a simple rocker arm swap out. And not change nothing else?

    yes, you would not need the whole kit! BUT i was on ebay today and saw a Ls6 valve train for sale for 300.00$ this kit had springs, rocker arms and push rods! which was not a bad idea,

    also there is a set of harland sharp rocker arms from texas speed for 399.00 which are great rocker arms for the price!

    if i was you and was not planning on making very many mods, i would go with oem arms, but if you plan on a cam swap in the future or high horsepower, it would be a good idea to get better arms, just keep in mind that 1.8 ratio are not compatiable with a lot of the after market cams out there!

    Running all stock.
    you have to get the crane quick lift rockers as a kit. the rockers require a shorter pushrod. stock is 7.400" and the ones in the kit are 7.250".

    i went with the 1.8 in the wife's car. if you decided on this, you will need better springs. should get better ones anyway.

    you can get it all from here. rocker kit, springs, valve spring tool
    http://vincihighperformance.com/superwebdeals.HTML

    installation procedure. you will need to grind some off of the insides of the valve covers for clearance. instructions for that are included with the kit.
    http://WWW.vincihighperformance.com/LS1 ROLLER ROCKER ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS.HTML

    this is the instructions with the diagram on where to grind
    http://cranecams.com/pdf/438e.pdf

    here's the dyno from the wife's car on stock cam and stock tune.

    Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

    the neat thing about 98 is the coils are individually bolted to the cover. much easier.

    Not excessive. They work for your build(s).

    I think for most cars, the 1.7's are plenty.

    using higher ratio rocker arms allow you to utilize less spring seat pressures.

    top level racing teams use up to 2:1 ratio arms. look at the history of the small block chevy engine.

    up to 1996 = 1.5
    LT4 = 1.6
    LS1 = 1.7
    LS7 1.8

    even ford has been using 1.6 for eons in the small block engines.
