    rebuilding a 3.8

Hey guys I have 98 v6 bird which was torn down to the block and seems my mechanic said screw me on putting it together. The question I have is how hard would it be to reassemble the motor if the parts are all still fine?

If this guy screwed you like that I'd be worried what else he did. I'd have another shop look over just to make sure clearances and block surface doesn't need addressed 1st.

These next 3 are very important...

Otherwise you'll need the torque specs and sequence for all bolts. Understand some bolts are 1 time use only - Rod and head bolts, specifically.

Bearings (new, never reuse old bearings, just asking it to grenade) You should always check clearances for rods and crank bearings.

Piston Rings - Need to know correct gap, some ppl will reuse them but like bearings I recommend fresh set. Falls into the "do it right now or do it again later" category.

Heads - should be checked for surface flatness. All Aluminum heads will warp over time.

Gaskets - I'm not a fan of reusing gaskets, MLS are about the only one I'll reuse.

There's a lot to rebuilding an engine as you see. I've built mine (twice technically), still going strong.

^^ This. Bearing clearances, ring gaps, assembly lubricant, assembly procedures, cleanliness, and adhering to torques specs are all critical to a proper engine rebuild.
