reading a cam card
Hey guys I just saw someone else asking about cams but didn't want to jump on his thread. I don't know shit about cams. I have a 6spd,
cam numbers
gross valve lift .595 .600
tappet lift 281 285
intake center line 114.0
duration@.050 232 236
lobe lift .3500 .3540
lobe sep 114.0
Is this large , small , middle of the road
how do you read all this mumbo jumbo ?

Middle of the road.
If you need descriptions start reading. All those numbers are pretty basic and just require a little study time.

Pewter metallic- 2000 Camaro SS
232/236 595/600 114lsa would be the typical description you would see for those specs. Its a middle of the road size cam for an LS1.

It's big enough that it will be a top end cam with that 114 LSA regardless of driveability.

so your saying middle of the road or a touch larger? Driveability is good, it doesn't give me any trouble on the street even in traffic.

I was saying that it was a top end cam even though I'm sure that it can drive very easily if tuned properly. I bet it doesn't peak until 6500 or so which would leave you shifting around 6700.

I think it speaks volumes as to where the LSx cams have went that a 232/236 with lifts ~.600 would be called a middle of the road cam. To me that's a larger cam than I would ever want to run on something that wasn't track dedicated.

Yes,my shop ran it on the dyno to 6700. It's tuned preaty well I think, It took me on a 1800 mile road trip without a hicup.
