To port or not to port

Some of you know from a previous post I have a set of heads from my 99TA. 853 casting. Is it worth me getting these heads ported and a valve job. Total Engine Airflow in KY. has quoted me a price of 1500 to do the job. He says they will flow 300 or better. I know flow isnt everything. I plan on Heads, cam,LTs, and possibly a turbo.

    long tubes and a turbo??

TEA does really good work, but $1500 seems like a lot if they are working off of your castings.

The LTs will be way before the turbo.I am thinking a turbo mabye in 2 yrs. Are the 241s on my car now any better than the 853s if I have them worked. Thanks

If you are dead set on a turbo....don't get the longtubes. Gonna end up having no use for them in the future.

$1500 is WAY too much if you provide the casting.

Also, get a plan together and try to follow it. If you want turbo, build the motor for it/

I paid $1000 for Brand new ported 271 castings with 2.04 intake valves and new prc double valve springs. WITH a new cam. $1500 is way too much $

The quote was from a while back. I will call to see if it still stands. Should I go with the shorties or leave the cast iron crap on there.

843 and 241 are almost the same casting's. Minor changes in them. If you are providing the heads.... that is too much I think. Shit, you should do some general searching on some heads packages. You might just be surprised!

I have a set of 853 heads had them ported with a valve job and they flow 272/ 219 and that's about all you'll get out of them. i am running 228/230 comp cam and ls2 intake and a auto i dynoed 386hp/ 351tq so i would spend $2200 on AFR 205

Pretty good numbers with the A4.

$2200 will gain you 15-20RWHP across the board. Honestly, hard to justify that price for that gain.

    MT ET streets.
    5800 feet up though...with a density altitude of 7100+.
Corrected ET's show anything from 10.6 to 11.2.

I would have them ported but I wouldn't spend more then a $1000.

Then after they complete the heads I would get on the horn to Cam Motion with ALL your cars specs and have a custom ground cam ground to take advantage of your added flow.
With the technology we have today I see NO point in buying a off the shelf grind when for about the same money you can get a custom ground cam to your application which will build more power and bee exactly what YOU want NOT going off others interpretations or opinions.
