    piston inside my intake

so theres a piston inside my intake. its in like 1000 peices but its all there, very unfortunate guess i will be pulling the engine. happened around 3.5k rpm then shut off, pulled over smoke was coming out of the intake took it off and found it.

2001 t/a 232/234 .629/.629 cam duel valve springs, crane gold rockers, double roller timing chain, melling ported pump, HP tuners, bolt on and so on.

Sorry to hear. Any pics? Curious to know what you find on teardown.

i definitely want to see pics of this one. I only had like three chunks of piston in mine, the rest was in the pan.

Sorry pal. That's not gonna be a fun one

I just finished the cam swap 700 miles ago idk how to upload pics on here via phone but took valve covers off and there wasn't a hole and the springs rockers and pushrods were perfectly fine. Everrything is fine but the piston that's inside the intake. Where do I gk from here? New engine? Ls1 or lq? What is the best economic and power optio .

If you have a piston all the way up in your intake, you need to check the integrity of everything. With mine, I found that the only components that lived were my cam, timing set and lifters. I had everything from a tweaked crank and a hole in my block to a gnarled head and twisted connecting rods. I would say it's best that you really investigate the carnage just so you know what went wrong so you don't do it on the next build. Live & learn! Good luck.

With your cam, I would suggest getting a machine shop to check the lobes to make sure they're still round. You don't want to overlook that with an entire piston making its way up to the intake

I'd say now that between me, Will, now Tep & you, I think engine rebuilds will be thoroughly covered for LS1 members

Actually, I'd say that between you all you could build at least one LS1 with all of the parts that survived the carnage

Tep, I have 6 out of 8 pistons left, but the rods, 3 to 4 of them are spun (2 confirm, 2 suspected) if you want the pistons (budget build) you're welcome to them.

I already have a new engine waiting patiently, complete with internals. Thank you though! My old parts are turning into a toe-stubbing table

I think at least 60% of the piston is somewhere else. I'm about to pull the intake. Maybe I can just cut the front 2 off and run a 3800 v6

I'm suddenly becoming concerned about the engine in my car, but I have noticed two that have failed are in '98 cars. Am I being paranoid or is it just a coincidence?

Mine was caused by a shotty spring. The engine itself was in great condition until the spring annihilated everything. I wouldn't worry too much.

You're more than likely right, worrying won't achieve anything either.
