oil pump install, lift engine?
i have a 98 ss m6 with about 100k. im doing cam/heads/intake/headers install. i also bought an ls2 timing chain and ls6 oil pump since the car has higher miles. i have a haynes repair manual and it says that i need to raise the engine and remove a motor mount to install a new oil pump but i read an article about changing heads/cam and installing oil pump and it doesnt say anything about lifting the engine. so my question is do i need to raise the engine and remove a motor mount to replace my oil pump(ugh i hope not)?

You don't need to lift the engine, who told you that?

no you dont have to raise the motor. you have to drop the oil pan some to get the pick up tube bolt out though.

Thats what i thought too but i was reading the Haynes repair manual and was reading on installing oil pump and it said to lift the engine and remove one of the motor mounts to get the old one out

the only thing i can think of is to replace the pick up. you might have to pull the pan to do that. then i herd you have to lift up the motor a little.

Be sure to have a long magnet handy just incase you drop the bolt.
