    Oil Pump

After what happen to TS|S engine, I am now wondering when should I change/update my oil pump. I have 111k miles on the engine?

That's a good question. I have 161k on my stock one though, so it's pretty variable I guess depending on how your luck runs and how you drive the car. It'd be safe to replace it as soon as you can, and upgrade to a better pump, like the LS6 pump or whatever is better for a decent price. It and my power steering pump are the only two necessary accessories I have left to replace, and I really want to do the oil pump soon, I get paranoid about my car....

Im about 1 or 2k away from you, when my oil gets warm I have huge drops in OP. Im going to install a cooler to help the problem but I only see a ls2 timing chain set and a ls6 pump curing it.

Our 98 LS1 pumps have been known to fail without warning. I would replace it, but while I was there I'd also update the timing chain. I did mine when I had did a cam swap with 15K on the car.

I am going to have to blow the LS6 out of the water. Lingenfelter Oil pump is about $40-$50 dollars cheaper then the Ported LS6 and Sarge runs it. I was told it has 15% more flow and good to 900 or so hp. If Sarge runs it, it must be good shit. I'll let you know how I like mine here soon

Same here. Mine will sit a little above 40 at startup, but after it warms up, it will sit just above the 20 mark at idle. Once I get on it, it'll jump back up above the 40 mark, but it doesn't make me any less leery about it...

What you need is an Accusump system, which is basically like a reserve shot of oil that releases when the system looses pressure.

Wow, you guys have some low pressures. Im around 50 psi at idle and it pegs at WOT. It makes me kinda weary, but I would rather have that then 20 psi at idle. I think everyone here should do a cam swap and replace everything

Are the problems being discussed limited to '98 oil pumps only? Not sure of the difference, if any, in pumps during the '98 - '02 production run.

i was doing some reading on ls1howto.com and they stated that 2000's are the most notorious for dying unexpectedly.

Been watching my oil gage since I got it. When at startup and engine is cold, my pressure is about 60, after 2-5 mins, goes down to 40, stays there unless I jump on the pedal. I know I am overdue on an oil change, but I am waiting on the LS1 Oil Shootout stuff from Sarge. Call me cheap, just don't want to change oil twice in same week or two.

FU, I wish Send me some money and I'll do it this weekend...if not, it'll be a while...keep thinking I should go ahead and save for the oil pump, and get it over with before I am saving for a new motor

Let me correct my last post. My oil psi is at 40 then after it warms up it drops to 25-30 psi. stays there until I romp on it.
