Oil Consumption
I wsa wondering is it normal to have some oil consumption in a high horsepower motor? If so what would be normal? I am looking at a vehicle with a 408 ringed for a 250 shot. He claims it is a "loose" built motor and has some oil consumption.

its loose due to it being rigged for nitrous ..its normal..oil consumption will happen...get a nice catch can that is functional and you dont have to worry about it

Most oil consumption comes from an improperly vented crankcase. This can be from a plugged PCV or a PCV that has been deleted w/CC and no breather. Vent the crank guys and let your rings seat.
The other major contributor to oil burning is ring packs gunked up. Use AutoRX and clean them ring packs boys and girls.

Esters and Lanolin's. Damn great stuff. Cleans the crap out of your motor...conditions seals/gaskets. The only oil additive I use or recommend. I run 4-5oz's per oil change and my results are unheard of.
The clean/rinse phases are different than my maintenance dosages. Follow the instructions to the letter.

Hmmm, I will def be looking into this additive.
Sarge, check you Oil catch can thead. I have a question about not running a LS6 valley cover. And if it is possible, or a good idea. I need a catch can setup BADLY and want to run the same exact setup you have going. But, I dont have the LS6 valley cover.

right now you are venting the clean side only pretty much..( the passenger side) correct...if your insistent on running a breather..the dirty side..(driver) is much more important to vent..so plug up the rear fitting for the passenger side..and keep the front fitting connected to the TB...while the dirty side gets a breather and that is it..that is about how optimal you can go with a single breather set up.

i dont quite follow..but why not ditch the breathers..and run a ls6 style pcv...i highly doubt your running into crankcase venting problems..where your poping dip sticks etc..just use a pcv system...if your a DD or a heavily driving street machine..that isnt pushing 500+rwhp out of a massive engine or FI//then a pcv is fine
