Number on Cylinder Head
There is a number made into the driver side cylinder head right beside the powerstering fluid bottle. I was wondering what it stood for? Mine is 851

its simply the gm casting number for your set of heads, thats all.

what were the differences in the heads between the years. Were there any heads that were better than the other? ?I have the 241 heads.

241/851=similar. 243=LS6 heads.

One more Q, do you know the compression ratio on 851 heads?

never heard of an 851 head. for the f-body they only used 853. and that casting number was used on the 99-00 cars.
