Need Tips on installing new cam
I got a 01 trans am with Pace setter headers and flow master cat back everything eles is stock. I just got done installing the headers last weekend so my car is still running like shit from removing the air and rear 2 sensors. Im going to buy a cam and send in my computer to get it tuned. Any tips on installing the new cam?

Change oil pump/lifters/valve springs/timing chain and last but not least pushrods while doing the cam. Lifter trays could be done also. Use blue thread lock on every bolt but head bolts. New head gaskets and bolts should be done. Yes you can do this without pulling the heads but doing it cheap and doing it right are two different things

Why should the oil pump be changed? I have been thinking about throwing a cam in my car and am courious why it is important to change an oil pump

oil pump should be changed because in high HP and or high RPM applications the stock oil pump can either fail or just not be sufficient enough to handle what you're throwing at it. ported LS6 oil pump is the way to go. Its just a little added insurance

The 98-99 oil pumps have a rep for failing. The later ones were better. If you are right there though why not drop an extra $140 and not worry..... Melling 10296 Hi pressure/volume pump here.
Lifters and trays can only be changed if the heads are pulled. This is not GenI/II stuff...
Definitely spend $40 and upgrade to an LS2 chain.
You will need springs too. Stockers can barely handle a stock cam. Yes on the hardened pushrods. Stockers will flex with stronger springs and higher lift cam.
There are other odds and ends like crank bolt and WP gasket, fluids....
