    Max bore on iron 6.0l

Does anyone know how far I can have the iron block 6.0l bored out to? Also I found a set of 6.2l pistons and rod cheap and was wondering if they would work in the gen III blocks with the stock crank or even a stroker crank?

I was under the impression that you could bore the iron block all the way out to accept 4.125" pistons. If this is wrong I hope someone says so because that is exactly what I planned on doing.

I was going to do 4.125" pistons and a 4" stroke. Hopefully someone with some experiance will post here.

only problem with going so big is if you score the cylinder wall you are out a block because you can't rebore larger

No way can you bore a plain jane iron block out to 4.125".

Most go .030 over, some have gone to .060 over.

Either way, If you plan on going any where past .030 over, you need to get it sonic tested for wall thickness. Depends also on what power levels you are planning on running. I believe they want .200" wall thickness after all boring is done. Take into consideration the added power you will get from gaining the FEW CI from boring, and then think about the possible weakness you are putting in the cylinder wall. Is it worth it?

The motto is still, and always will be for a 'max' bore anything...

    Sonic testing.

Thanks for the info. Really doubt I'll do any boring at all just mainly curious. Waiting on the block to come in and see what shape the cylinder walls are even in. It really seems hard to find any concrete info and specs on the LS engines yet.

I did some research on this for my future build up and found that early 6.0L blocks with iron heads 1999 to 2002 half year, is suggested that it be no more than .010. Those early years they need to be sonic checked. The late model can be .030 max bore. Sonic checked just for insurance. A few machine shops in my area that I called really did not want to over bore it by .010. I guess so as not to lose the time and man hours if it turned out to thin.
