is a manifold upgrade really worth the money

    hey guys
I'm planing on purchasing the trick flow package and i was wondering what you guys think about a manifold upgrade. i know the stock one has to come off but is it really Worth 600 to 800 bucks to upgrade? for that much money i could put in a new double roller timing chain and an electric water pump on. correct me if I'm wrong but 10 to 25 hp is about all your gonna gain with an aftermarket manifold unless you upgrade your TB ?

Yes it is or your gonna choke that engine with that LS1 intake you have right now if your putting in a heads and cam package. Especially with Trick Flow heads and if the cam builds power past 5600 rpm's. At least find an LS6. You can find them used for under 400.

At least get an LS6. MAybe do some minor port work on that. I would not leave the stock LS1 intake on an engine I was spending money on good flowing heads.

I have seen where you can port an ls-2 manifold to improve the performance to near fast standards. You could also pick up an weiand aluminum manifold for 400 and have it ported. Would cost you less, but you definatley need a better manifold than the ls-1. Also if you search on ls1tech the electric water pump has not necessarily given people the extra power they thought they would get.

yes, it makes a huge difference. i gained 35rwhp/10rwtq OVER an Ls6 intake and stock Ls1 TB by swapping to the FAST 90/90 (ported). i went from 409/386 to 444/395 to the ground after swap and retune...

dont do what i did and buy the Ls6 intake and swap when doing the heads. it's a move that only wastes money, time, and resources. go FAST 90/90 or 92/92 the first time around and be done with it.

im sharing this with you because i have been there and done myself. good luck w/your build.

FAST intake will definaetely pick up more than an electric waterpump. Usually people that concerned with money will go with a cheaper alternative to TFS like a TSP/PRC combo. This would leave you with extra $$ for the FAST.

I loved the power gain I got from the 92/92.

Whether or not it was worth my 1200 $$$$ is up in the air. I definitely picked up power through the RPM. Throttle response was great. Plus I gain almost 3 MPG after changing out my stock TB that had been drilled by previous owner. That has probably payed for itself.
