    LSX Build questions

Alright I am looking at swapping blocks from my ls1. Ive been looking around at some blocks mainly the lsx I was wondering what if anything would swap over from the Ls1.

Just wondering about what brands of pistons, rods and cranks to go with (forged). I dont wont to go cheap with this!!

Will the trannys swap from the stocker to the lsx? This will get me by for now until I do my rear end and trans swap. I dont plan on racing this until then btw so no bashing on this motor blowing the rear and trans...

You are going to build an LSx block up and expect the stock transmission to hold the power? If it is an A4...it will be dead just hearing the built motor start up.
The tranny bolts up, along with all of your factory accessories.

All of the accessories including heads? Id like to reuse my heads if at all possible since they are basically brand new. (prc 2.5 5.3 heads)

Those heads are gonna be a bottleneck more than likely for the LSx build.

How big (cubic inches) are you planning on going?

I wont to go with 408. I wasnt sure on the heads I figured they would be a bit restrictive but would they get me by or should I try to sell them now.

Im trying to through together some parts list so I can get a ball park estimate on how much this is going to cost me.

Basically a short story to why I am doing this is I had a my main coolant hose from the water pump come off (how I dont know it still had the clamp on the end) and ofcourse it pumped water basically right into my filter.... Peices of piston everywhere. Ill have to get some picture somtime when im not at work.

IF you want 408....get the LQ9 block, not the LSx block.

easier and cheaper. the lq9 is a perfect fit in our cars and can be stroked to a 408 while using your current set of accessories. i think you only have to tap a hole into the block for the alternator, other than that it is a perfect fit.

    Price.

Go LSx if you are looking to build something insane. If you want a built 408...go LQ9.

Just start researching. LSX block iswas designed for high/high horsepower application. With the ability to be bored out to I *think* 4.25"!!! That far outshines the LQ9's capabilty.

Lunati ProMod rods in mine...along with Mahle pistons.

Eagle crank...but if I did it again, I would go with something else. Not much to worry about with the cranks though. Even the stocker can handle 800RWHP.

Ok so does it come as a stock type displacement or do you order it to fit your application? Sounds like if you want top of the line you go with the LSx....yes?

    I am not researching it.
But it comes with a larger bore than stock for sure, and if I recall, it can be punched out quite a bit. Over 450 cubes...nearing 500 (and maybe over it).

I think 486 is max and you can order the block through gm and they machine it to your specs.
