Are LS1s "sleeved"?
I think, not often, I heard the LS1 is built with a steel (mterial ?) sleeve in the cylinder. Is this right?
Well if so, can (or should) an LS1 be rebuilt by having it re-sleeved? Can an LS1 be bored or just stoked?
I'm curious what can the LS1 take/tollerate/handle on a rebuild. One day when i feel like pissing in the wind while i spend money. I would like to rebuild my aging LS1. I'm not real sure what most do when they rebuild an LS1.
thanks

yes they are sleeved in an aluminum block, normally you can bore them .010 over and that shouls add about 1-2 cubic inches, if you want to stroke it then you have to get different rods, crank and bore with new pistons
Probably the most cost efficient way would be to go with an after market long block such as a 383 ls1 stroker. mucho grande torque do more research on long blocks and call some engine builders to get prices on your motor rebuild vs new long block or short block assembles2000 auto camaro

hey i have a question,,,iv gotten my hands on a 2000 5.3 iron block,,,can these blocks be bored to make a 6.0 ,,or would they have to be sleeved also, and would this block be worth building it only has 35,000 mlies on it,,,,iv always been told that aluminum cools faster, and is lighter,,,but would this iron blk be a good candidate ,,,,,and how much heavier is this blk, would i have to change my front suspension any on my f-body

silverz28camaro, that's a good idea about comparing a long block to a rebuild. I have GM Crate Engine Depot book marked, or something like that. I just figured one day in the future it would be time for something. One problem is I really want a M6 in it, and that seems to big mucho bucks.
do you know if the sleeves can be knocked out and fresh ones put in?
