Ls1 Sleeper mods Please help
Guys,
I'm looking to make some adjustments to an ls1. I don't want the car to sound that much different from stock. I was thinking about an ls1 to ls6 conversion but after reading some threads it looks like there are other ways to make more horse power for about the same dollar amount (2500). What are your suggestions. Again, I'm looking for maximum horse power mods (cam, heads, etc) for 2500 or less and not have my car sound "lopy". I don't mind a louder than stock exhaust just not a hugh lfit / duration on the cam that has the engine sounding like a monster.

here's what i would do with 2500 bucks
for a sleeper..
3.73 ring and pinion 500 bucks installed
yank 3200 stall if you have an a4??? 700 installed
bfg drag radials 500 bucks
cold air intake 250 bucks
q tec electric cutout will be loud only when you want. ?? 500 bucks
total 2450. your going to go over a bit cause you need a tune for about 250 bucks
so 2700 and your estimated 1/4 mile time should be.....in the 12's depending on what you run stock !!! sound good? then do all the free mods.. coolant by pass, intake air temp relocater. and all that little stuff. i also wired my fans on and put a 160 degree thermostat.. for another 50 bones..

3.73 gear and convertor for auto. 4.10 gear for 6 speed. Lid, free mods and drag radials as c5 said. A mild cam will help a little bit. That will get you in around $2500 and you will be a happy man.

Quest? Where are the freebies? Is there a link? If I did the ls6 conversion in addition to a few of the things above would that get me a streetable 450HP. If you had to pick and chose what what would you do? By the way this a 2001 ws6.

honestly to tell you the truth i think the ls6 conversion is overrated as my c5 made 410 hp at the motor stock.. its all about the tune and bolt ons.. dont waste the money for the cam and heads

Id do a Z06 cam, hardend pushrods, some upgraded rocker arms/vaulve springs and and an aftermarket exuast with a muffler that will cut down on the noise. Then a converter and DR's

Most people jump right over the LS6 cam for something bigger. Check out the Thunder Racing "Old Man Cam" nice gains over stock without the big cam sound.

Navy Blue Metallic- 2000 Camaro Z28
First let me say that you will never hit 450rwhp with heads and cam + suporting mods in a stealthy package unless you spray or go turbo. If you are going the cam route look into a Lingerfelther GT2-3 it will idle better than stock and put your car in the 370rwhp with suporting mods, it will not make as much power as the Old man but it is pretty good.

Artic White- 99 SS
Cheatr cam is stealthy and will work good with stock exhaust manifolds. Sounds stock. I am looking to order one myself.
