LS1 Hot Cam Install And questions!
I know there are already a million posts on here about the "LS1 hot cam kit, including springs" but I still have several questions.
On a stock car how will it affect gas mileage? This is my daily driver
Will it make the car smoke?
Should I have it done by a mechanic? Do the heads really need to come off?
Last but not least drivability, what about cold starts and long highway trips, and so on. I am a college student and don’t have the cash to make it a drag car, but this cam seems like a good mod for the money, depending on durability

Thanks for any input

you'd get more responses in the internal engine section

There are tons of more driveable cams that make more power. With the time and work needed to crack into the engine and swap cams, I can't think of a good reason to run that one.

Don't let Calico hear that. ^^ He's got the fastest car on the board. Hotcam only.

Totally agree. Don't waste your time and money on a hotcam when there are plenty others you can get that will give you more power. If your really worried about gas mileage, then yes, go with the hotcam. It's a very mild cam and you will see minimal power gains from it, but keep your stock driveability and gas mileage.

With my 226/228 .858/.588 lsa 112 cam I did not notice any change in gas mileage (at least when I am driving normal).

Thanks for the response!
I really just want it to have that "cam sound" Sure its great to get a lot more horsepower but, it is already fast enough to take care of all the Rx8's i might see on my way to work or school
Now i just have to to decide if i should pay someone 600$ to put it in?

if youre going to upgrade ur cam, getsomething a little bigger than the hotcam. i had it for about 6monthes, then upgraded to a 224. instantly regretted the hotcam.
as for gas mileage, you shouldnt lose too much if you get a good tune, and the heads do not need to come off.

I was quoted about 650$ for a tune, If everything else is stock do i really need a tune? Could i do it with a handheld programmer.
I am going to try to install it myself
