    Ls1 engine assemble!

Has anyone assembled their LS1 with out the alignment tools GM sells (and recommends) to align the front and rear covers so that the oil pan aligns right? If you did do it with out the tools, did you have any oil leaks? I am also looking for the donut like tool that allows one to the rear seal onto the back of the motor.

I am just wondering if you can just make the bottom of the cover flush with the bottom of the block so the oil pan sits straight with oput oil leaks.

i did mine without the tools. the first time. i cracked the rear cover on the rear bolt. got it welded, then actually paid attention. got it close. the rear seal leaks a little bit. front cover is fine. you can make it flush with the bottom of the block. it's the left/right slop that you have to be careful with. don't tighten the cover down first before tightening the oil pan. that's where i made my mistake. among some other things.

I test fitted some parts and it dosen't seem like there is a lot of slop to play with.
