    Low Oil Lite

My 2001 LS1 formula is equipped with a low oil light. I am trying to figure out how it works or if it works. When I changed my oil the other day I turned on the ignition to see if the light illuminated but it did not. I also have the switch off of the blown engine and I plugged it in also not installed in the oil pan it did not illuminate the dash light. What scenario does it take to turn on the light. Thanks

OK, we're talking low oil light right? Should light up for a bulb check when you turn the key on if installed in the passenger side of the pan. After it senses about 2 quarts low it will also illuminate, and not shut off after filling to the right (sensed) level until the PCM sees 194* ECT and the ignition is off for a minimum of 1 hour. Hope this helps...

Yes I did mean the low oil light. Thanks for the info. When I changed the engine I wasnt sure if the new engine that I installed the sensor would be working correctly that is why when I changed the oil and had the pan empty I thought the light would be illuminated with the key in the run position. What is the ECT? I am assuming the PCM is the computer. Thanks for the info.
