Lifters Maybe
Alright guys heres the sitrep. i just finished putting new heads on my 04 gto. i used the stock push rods and lifters with the stock cam.
i started the car and let it run so the oil could get in the new heads. Then i went for a test drive. Everything was fine till during the drive the engine started knocking horribly (not like a rod knock). I think its a lifter tapping. I also threw a P0300 error code (random engine misfire). if it is a lifter sticking then i understand why it threw the cel and the code.
the heads are prc stage 2.5 cnc ls6 cast heads. 60cc chamber with dual springs.
will post more when i pull the heads tomorrow.
What are your thoughts

Pull the valve covers and check the pushrods and rocker arms first. Did the new heads change the valve train geometry, you may need different pushrods. Make sure the rockers are adjusted correctly as well.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

Use a pushrod checker, COMPCAMS has one for $20, I picked mine up form WS6store.
Anytime you change heads, lifters, rockers and cam OR have the heads milled you need to check the pushrod length. Otherwise they will not open fully or to much and do damage to the heads/piston.

pulled the valve covers and found the issue. Rockers had worked loose so i tightened them and will be applying lock tight to them after the oil drains down again.
Kinda hard to get the cylinders to tdc while the engine is in car. i did the install in car.

It's a step that needs to be done. Otherwise you are not torquing to proper ft lbs.
