lifter question
should you absolutely put in new lifters when you do a cam swap? some people say yes and some say no. does it depend on mileage?

Depends on alot of factors, Ie condition of current lifters, Size of cam, Etc etc. Personaly i would replace them as well as your valvetrain to eliminate any worries of failure and since you have it opened up its just easier. Kinda like replacing brake pads and not shaving your rotors.

well since you have to take the heads off to get to the lifters i wouldnt say it's like putting brake pads on and not shaving the rotors. i mean if you could get to the lifters easily when you swap the cam i am all for it.

it just seems like a shame to have to pull the heads off and not put a good aftermarket set back on when i do plan on putting new heads on eventually. i dont want to have to pay for that to be done twice.

You don't have to pull the heads off. Just pull the valley cover off and just lift them out that way.

Are you sure about this..I mean have you done it this way? Because in every manual I've seen it sas you have to remove the heads to get them out. I know you can see them through the valley cover, but I didn't think you could remove them form there....I thought they can only slide into those trays one way; From the top...?

If you are planning on getting some high RPMs out of the car there is also the LS7 racing lifters which seem to be a great product and only cost about 220 or so.

Yea i was like what the hell, thats old school CSB motors
you have to pull the heads off to replace the lifters on LS1
I used stock lifters untill I was ready to do the heads (back on my stock short block)
There have been some cases of the caddy lifters coming apart with only 3-4k miles on them!
