Springs are a must with any cam swap. If there is ONE thing that must be replaced, its the springs.

Yes, like he Hi-Po said, springs FOR SURE, and I would probably change pushrods for sure too, just to be on the safe side. But if you have the money, oil pump/timing chain/spark plugs if you use the air tool to keep your springs compressed then change them while they're out and get a 160* t-stat while your at it. Good luck with your swap, your going to LOVE a bigger cam

well i'm just debating all sorts of options

if i'd just need to swap springs/pushrods/timingchain for a mild cam i'd figure <$1000 for all parts and i could do that this christmas

but if i needed even more such as a oilpump/waterpump/lifters/etc/etc i'd have to wait,

also weighing options of an ls6/lq9 as my motor has 121k on it now, so its getting aged

last two options will have to wait until i have a GOOD paying job, probably out of college

With your engine having higher milage, I would strongly suggest a port LS6 oil pump. There are so many things that will nickel and dime you to death if your not ready for them. Remember, you still need a 400-600 dollar tune after the cam swap.
