2016 Camaro SS - Summit- 2001 Trans Am WS6 - NBM
When you get to pulling the engine apart, you should keep your overall goals in mind...you need to keep your money going in the same direction you're traveling. You may actually find it cheaper to get a new motor, at least a short block, and installed, for cheaper than a rebuild...or at least more worth while. Take Crash for example, he invested in a 408 stroker over having his redone (which I think was rather impossible anyway, hydrolock). Just keep your end goal in mind for your car before putting any money into it.
Hope this makes at least some sense

depend on what you want done, but i would imagine it shouldnt be more than $2500-$3000 for a rebuild. depending on price of labor and parts. but if your going to spend the money i would say 408.....

And then there was 3 TJEA
You can also buy an ls-6 long block with a 3 year warranty for $3500.

It would be awesome to make it a high horsepower engine and put something bigger! But then again I don't think my mom could handle it
Since I have my '02 well the '98 sits there for a few weeks before I have time to wash it and take it out for a spin. So she wants to cruise in it! I know crazy!
And she still runs real good at 195,000 but I'm guessing eventually shell need to be redone. Its a little weird though cuz it has the 241 heads and those didn't come in till later right? So I'm guessing the previous owner did some work to her?

can you contact the previos owner? try and figure out what he did? so maybe you can just give your mom you motor, and get the 408 for your self. solves two problems

Another consideration: Your stock '98 block is really limited on any overbore. In the event you need to clean up the bores, the literature recommends no more than a .004" hone. Granted, you can have the originals removed and new liners pressed in; but that would add considerably to the expense of the rebuild. With 195,000 on the ticker, it is likely that there will be some cylinder scoring, taper, and out-of-round issues that may need to be dealt with.
