i have a few questions about the lsx motors

how much HP can the block handle
is the block a 4 bolt main
is the aftermarket as big for these cars like it is for the mustang
what kind of power will it take to get a full weight ws6 trans am into the low
    7's high 6's in the 1/8 mile
    thanks

i can't answer all your questions, but i can tell you that the aftermarket is huge. There is a bigger aftermarket for the LSX than the 4.6. The LSX aftermarket rivals the 5.0

The block is a six bolt main and can handle up to 600 hp with no internal mods. The aftermarket is huge for LSx engines, anything you want you can have.

From what i understand the factory rods and pistons can only take about a little over 500 horses.

Just the block? It's good for well over 1000 crank HP. The crank is very strong (some have reliably run it over 1000rwhp), but the rods and pistons are not, especially the pistons. 600 crank HP seems to be the limit on rods and pistons.

    LS1's have a 6 bolt main.

The LS1 aftermarket is nowhere near the size of the SBC or Ford 5.0L, but it is quite extensive and rapidly growing, and provides enough options to do just about anything you want.

A full weight TA could hit 7.0 in the 1/8 mile with as little as 500 crank HP (which may sound like a lot but even mild heads and cam setups have no problem eclipsing that). Forget about rwhp numbers, as they vary greatly and rarely show true performance capability, especially on an automatic car.
