which heads should I get ported 862 or 853
which heads should I get professionally hand ported 862 or 853.
I was orginally thinking of porting the 862 which are 5.3 litre heads and then
enlarging the intake valves to 2".
now I'm considering just haveing the 853s done any thought and feedback is appreciated.cam-LTs-FAST78-Susp.-Rims

The quality of the port work and valve job will make more difference than which head you choose. Do whatever is less $$$.
If you are going to run the stock 2.00/1.55 valves in the 853 it will be cheaper to do the 853's because you already have the valves.
If you were gonna swap 2.02/1.57's into either setup the cost would be equal for parts/labor so you are back to a draw IMO.
Again the quality of the work will make more difference than which head you use so go the most economical route.

Whats so special about 862's? Isn't that going backwards? gain out of the hole lose a lot on the upper end.

smaller combustion chambers resulting in higher compression ratio. how high depends on what all is done to the heads. but overall higher CR which is more power across the whole power curve. if left in stock trim yes they would flow less than the stock heads, but its not to where the engine takes a drastic power loss because again the CC's are smaller.

smaller port = faster velsocity
actually there is a few benifits w/ the 862.
1.everyone knows about the higher compression that's free HP.
2.smaller port = faster air velsocity.
3.smaller port from what I understand complements a smaller street stripe cam I have. I like lots of low end power the trade off is high end peak which is fine by me.
and lastly the man that will be doing the work has done lots of these 862.
he also includes a flow sheet.
I've been pricing and looking for a deal on the 799s however it may take alot more time for the right deal.
Thanks Guy's for the tipsLast edited by qwik219d9; 01-11-2010 at 01:03 AM.
