Building an engine around a cam is not a good idea. Building an engine around a junk grind is worse. Reverse split cams are inferior to the traditional splits. Buy the best heads you can afford, and cam accordingly.

Not worth either the time or the money. By the time you get a valve job, factor in new valve costs and then all the machine work, you could have had a stock set of 243s that would work MUCH better, or just shy of a budget ported stock casting like the PRC or Livernois heads that would be better yet. Bigger valves with a GOOD valve job, and a mill would yield little power with the 241s. Certainly less than the alternatives.

I agree with you on buying the best heads you can afford, and not jumping into a certain cam too quikcly 100%. But, people still make some great power on reverse splits.

You could have bought a set of 243s for that price and made more power.

243 heads are LS6 heads. You've got a LOT to learn.

don't listen to mark 85 z, i have the same cam and a set of 5.3 liter heads and made 455 rwhp back in 2002, thats an old setup that still makes more power than most heads and cam cars out there today. 11.10's all day in a 6 speed on a 1.72 60' at 122mph is not bad. a better 60 and the car will run 10's on motor at stock weight fully loaded ss.

    So it's really that simple!?

Let me know when a set of ported 241 heads puts down over 500rwhp on a 346 and runs bottom 10s.

    Thanks.

We're talking 241 vs 243 right? And how much did those 5.3s run you? Less than $550?

no I was the first test car for thunder racing and gtp for these heads, they cost me 2k assembled but i gained 59 rwhp by these heads, now you can get them used for 800.
