heads and cam question
I'm pretty new to this stuff. I have a 2000 camaro ss 6 speed with headers / exhaust and a tune. I was wondering about if I got a factory ls6 heads and a decent cam would the results in hp be decent. Or would I be better off with a different type of heads. What type of cam is recommended. My motor is stock.

Some LS6 heads an an LS6 cam would give you some decent power if your just looking for that little extra umph. It would bring you up somewhere around 420ish hp with the headers and tune you have.

What is a good cam that would go with that setup. Looking for a little more than the stock cam

Id have to say something around in the 220's if you want to keep it somewhat still mild. A real popular one is a 224/224 .56x .56x 112 or 113 cam, those will genereally put the 6 speeds up in the 450hp flywheel range

224 and 228 cams are proven under the curve power cams. make strong power, pull hard, and with the right setup turn great track times. with a good tune, very streetable and daily driver friendly. these cams are not the donkey dick cams like the Ms4 that make peak power at the top end. these are strong mid to top end cams that give a nice long flat TQ curve, etc.
im running a 224, with stage II ls6 heads and typical boltons through a 6spd/stock 10-bolt and gears, and im putting down 458/410 to the ground

Comp Cam single pattern: 224/224 .581/.581 @112 lsa.
Heads are Patriot Stage II Ls6 heads: 2.02" int/1.57"ext, 59cc. PTV clearnace is fine, and no flycutting was necessary
don't go solely off my number or my parts, figure out what your build goal is. i built miy car around my build goals (strong street car). others will say my results aren't typical and that there are other 'top shelf' brands that might be better, but can the price difference really be justified for an extra 3-5rwhp?
again, lots of variables. i emplore you to continue doing the research you are and asking the questions you have. everyone is going to say something different about whats the best, or what you should get, blah, blah, blah. i'm simply telling you what worked for me....
here is the last dyno pull i have done. couple years ago. not that dyno numbers mean squat, and no, i have not been to the track with this current setup, so i dont have any times.
