heads and cam
i feel a little out of place on this website, got directed from gm-trucks/forums.com was told you guys are "fuelie" guru's. i have a 2006 1500HD gmc sierra with an LQ4, 4L80e, 14 bolt rear end. a few bolt ons ie K&N FIPK, magnaflow cat-back and a wicked tune done with EFI live. it goes pretty damn good, im sick of gettin wacked by my buddies diesel he barely beats me now. i found a set of LQ9 heads, completely re-worked for 800 bucks. what steps will i have to take installing these? what is a good cam with this short block/head combo? what kind of compression can i expect? cuz the lq4 and 9 are different top ends arent they? im tryin to get about 450hp out of this motor any other advice would be sweet thanks

Get l33 5.3 heads or ls6 heads they are basically the same head. These heads with a good cam will make over 450 hp looking at 10.5 to 1 with l33 or ls6 heads

Do you tow with your truck at all?I ask because if you do be careful what cam you choose. Some will make great power at the upper rpm range, but are dogs in the lower range, rendering truck useless for towing.

i can use the 5.3 heads? i can get a set of those too...i didnt know i could use those heads. i thought combustion chamber was too small for a 92mm bore...i thought the LQ9 heads were the best bet???

The only ls heads you would have any trouble with is l92 bc of intake difference and you Have to have a 4 inch bore for l92 heads. As far as stock heads go l92's are the best.
